The excursion to Torre Murtas takes us to the outpost of Ogliastra: the solitude is total, the space seems boundless. Arriving at the base of the tower, which stands on a hill, looking north, the coastline appears rich in porphyry and pink granite, interspersed with coves, sea cliffs, and heavenly corners.<\/p>\n

The Tower of Murtas, a fortification of the Kingdom of Sardinia, was built between 1792 and 1794. It has the characteristic truncated conical shape with various openings and a domed vault; its functions included surveillance and defense against Saracens. Looking south, the view is graced by a beach approximately 6 km long, formed by tiny pebbles that have a ‘peeling’ effect on our bare feet.<\/p>\n

In the distance, the evocative granite rock of Murtas stands undisturbed amidst a sea with turquoise, blue, and bottle-green reflections. Despite the beauty of the place, we are aware that this is a controversial territory because one of the largest military bases on the island is located here, under investigation for conducting exercises with depleted uranium and other harmful substances. It is not for us to pass judgment on the healthiness of the place.<\/p>\n

What we can tell you with absolute certainty is that this remains one of the most beautiful and wild places in Sardinia.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
